What is Burnout? (3 part Series)

This week I would like to shed light on a worldwide phenomenon known as Burnout. Many of us may have experienced it and may not even have realized what we were going through has a name.

Help Guide defines Burnout as

“…a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands.”

Adults and children alike can experience this and even more so during this time. All of us are dealing with the closing of 2020. Though this may sound like music to our ears it may come as a harsh reality for many of us too. With the end 0f 2020, we also have deadlines, finals, the holiday season, and of course another possible year of COVID. This may bring a whole wave of new stressors and responsibilities for us to deal with a very limited time to complete it.

And as we defined before these stressors ultimately begin to lead to burnout. We will begin to see exhaustion manifest both physically and mentally. We will feel drained and fatigued and then may even be unable to keep up with the constant demand we feel.

This week my 3 blog posts will focus on: what burnout is, my own tips on how I prevent/ deal with burnout, and how, if one does go through burnout, to bounce back from it.
