We all Need Therapy

For many therapy is seen as something taboo or only for those dealing with extensive mental health problems; however, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Much like getting a check-up or blood works done, you do not just go to the doctor when something is wrong you also go to make sure you are in good health generally. This should be no different for one’s mental health. In addition, to this statistically, most psychologists and therapists believe that everyone needed therapy to some extent (even themselves!). There’s a reason that people in this field are required to go through their own therapy and counseling sessions, they know how powerful and needed it can be.

Though counseling was originally used for treating extreme mental health disorders, other disciples have expanded to create different models to allow for even the simplest forms of distress to reach out and get the help they need. This is why it is imperative that everyone tries to reach out and get help even if they feel they don’t need it. Additionally, not all counselors work solely under mental health. Some work in a more life and career-building setting which may be more beneficial to someone rather than a normal counseling session.

At the end of the day, it’s everyone must make their own choice on whether or not counseling is right for them and if they are willing to pressure it. But, I believe that it is a necessary part of life that is no different than getting an everyday check up.
