The Psychology of Yoga & Mindfulness

As many of us know mental health and physical health are tied together in numerous different ways. However, the average person tends to focus on one or the other and not both. Things such as meditation and yoga are great ways to practice mindfulness in a way that will help you both mentally and physically.

Mindfulness is the act of living in the present moment. Being aware of sensations surrounding you: things you can feel and hear. Whist also being aware of how your thoughts come and go and being OK with this. Sitting in silence or at least outside the hustle and bustle of daily activities can be very therapeutic.

Yoga originated in India over 4,000 years ago. It has been practiced in numerous spiritual and religious contexts including Hinduism. In the westernized version of modern Yoga, a person will you breathing techniques and specific “poses” for numerous benefits that can range from physical, mental, or even spiritual.

When combing both the practices of yoga and mindfulness we are able to create something that is beneficial to the person in numerous different ways. In the next two blog posts, we will focus on how to achieve this.
