With the rise of the social media platform “Tik Tock” many of those who are familiar with the app may have heard of “Manifesting” or “Affirmation”. To those unaware, this may sound odd or even seem like a pseudoscience but to those in the world of psychology are very aware that the theory of “Self Fulfilling Prophecy” is very real.
Self Fulfilling Prophecy is defined as
“A self-fulfilling prophecy is a sociological term used to describe a prediction that causes itself to become true. Therefore, the process by which a person’s expectations about someone can lead to that someone behaving in ways which confirm the expectations.”

Through this, we can see how the idea of manifestation and affirmation can be proven on a scientific and researched level. Though this is a theory this means it has been tried and tested numerous times and has been proven to be true.
To manifest means to will something into your life. This may be through the repetition of words and phrases. Constantly having the mindset that this thing WILL happen or even actively working towards this goal or thing whilst also having this mindset that no matter what it will happen. This correlates exactly with the idea of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Affirmations on the other hand are more focused around positive confirmation of one’s self. This is common practice with young adults and adolescents and this has especially blown up on social media platforms. This unconditional positive regard of one’s self has proven positive effects on one’s self-esteem and anxiety.
In the next blog post, I will focus on what exactly these positive effects are and how to “manifest” things in your own life through affirmations!
